How Does The Diana Screen® Work?
The important question is why does it work?
The Diana Screen® is the result of more than 18 years of research by Abel Screening, Inc. and two long-term collaborations with The Episcopal Church and Boys & Girls Clubs of America. Its inventor, Gene G. Abel, M.D., is an internationally recognized authority on sexual violence. While The Diana Screen® is new; the technology has been used by therapists and criminal justice professionals over 100,000 times.
What The Diana Screen® does is harden the target.

Many people think that they can tell who is or who is not a sexual risk to children by the way they look or by the way they act. If only it were that simple.
In reality, most people who are sexual risks to children seem just like everyone else on the outside.
That is why they can be so successful in getting jobs near children. Internally, however, there are many identifiable differences between people who are sexual risks to children and people who are not. It is these internal differences that The Diana Screen®is able to identify.
It is Abel Screening's large database of details from men and women who have admitted that they have sexually abused children that makes this possible.
A database of sexual details from over 100,000 people forms the basis for the creation of The Diana Screen®.
With this data, we were able to develop a complex scientifically validated methodology. This methodology can discriminate between two groups: people who DO NOT sexually abuse and people who DO sexually abuse children, even if they lie about it.
THE DIANA SCREEN® protects children in two ways.
First, it screens for men and women who have already sexually abused a child. Backed by a database of over 100,000 people with problematic sexual behavior, THE DIANA SCREEN® has scientifically valid methodology. This methodology screens out people who are a sexual risk.
Second, THE DIANA SCREEN® screens out people who show a very weak understanding of the importance of the sexual boundaries between children and adults. Some will have already sexually abused. Some will be permission-givers who will fail to protect the children from other adults and older children.
Just as protective is The Diana Screen's® ability to screen for people who are a low risk to sexually abuse a child. These adults also show that they can protect children against other adults who might be sexual risks. These low-risk applicants make up a superior hiring pool.
The people who pass The Diana Screen® - nearly 90% - give an organization an excellent group from which to hire.
