An Abel Screening
Child Protection Test

"New research reveals that 10% of children say they were sexually abused by school staff - teachers, coaches, bus drivers and principals."
          Gene G. Abel, MD

Schools and Daycare Centers Becoming Safer For Children

Nearly 10% of school children say they were sexually abused by school staff. Minority children have much higher numbers compared to their numbers as students.

What happens when a teacher, a bus driver, a coach or a crossing guard at your school sexually abuses?

The child becomes fearful of adults, of school, becomes sad, and often suffers physical health problems. Nearly always he or she suffers emotional problems.

Your school staff loses parents' trust.

Direct costs recently paid by a South Carolina school for one case: more than 5.1 million.

The financial costs are staggering. For private schools and daycares, and public schools as well, there is a greater cost. Loss of trust. Parents move their children to another school. The staff in charge becomes suspect. Some are asked to resign.

With new technology, there is a way to reduce your risk.

Every school has the same problem.

At least 6% of all adults sexually abuse children. More than 95% of them have no criminal record. Nearly all start the behavior at an early age - 14 to 18 years old.

Most abuse a child because they have a sex drive directed at children.

So, 6% of the people wanting jobs at a school are sexual abusers of children. They are practiced at getting by your screening.

The school group with the most abusers are teachers, followed by coaches and bus drivers.

And you may be at risk from your own school system passing off problematic teachers who have been terminated at another school and are now applying to your school.

You may be doing everything you can. The abuse is definitely not your fault. Still.

Nearly 10% of school children say they were sexually abused by school staff.

What if you could reduce the risk to your school by at least 70% before you hire?

HOW THE CHILD ABUSER PASSES YOUR SCREENING

1. He assumes, since you know him, that you won't do a thorough reference check.
2. You may need to hire someone quickly, so you do not do a thorough reference check.
3. You ask for two letters of reference. He gives you references who know nothing about his past as an abuser.
4. On his resume, he leaves out the places he worked that would report his problematic behavior.
5. He strongly encourages you to do a criminal check on him. Like over 95% of people who sexually abuse, he knows he has never been convicted.
6. You don't use the new screening methods - such as THE DIANA SCREEN®.

WHAT WE BELIEVE

The people at Abel Screening are dedicated to protecting children.

We believe every parent should know that their children have the greatest sexual abuse protection possible when they are cared for by others away from home.

THE DIANA SCREEN®, by screening out prospective volunteers and employees who present a sexual risk, improves the child's sexual safety by an estimated 70%.

For 20 years Abel Screening has been developing cutting-edge technology to keep children safe.

THE DIANA SCREEN® is our sixth test. It is a breakthrough in technology - 18 years in the making - that gives child care groups a way to add more sexual protection to children than has ever been possible.

Gene G. Abel, M.D., president of Abel Screening, Inc., is an internationally recognized pioneer in the sexual protection of children.

The federal government has awarded him six long-term National Institute of Mental Health grants to study the prevention of child molestation.

Dr. Abel has published 150 scientific articles in medical journals and criminal justice books and on the Attorney General's Department of Justice website.

Now, those findings are being put to a practical use.

As we work with religious and secular groups to protect the children in their care, it's important to us to form a partnership.

As we work with you to protect children, we will support you with the greatest respect for your organization. We will provide the highest quality in scientific technology and immediate customer service.

Together we can establish a new era in child safety.
