An Abel Screening
Child Protection Test

"I have evaluated pediatricians, nurses, child psychiatrists and child psychologists who have sexually abused children. The Diana Screen® screens out the health care people who fail to know the sexual boundaries that adults must abide by with children."
          Gene G. Abel, MD

Children's Hospitals Becoming Safer For Children

Children's health is your first concern.

One problem you face is that at least 6% of the people wanting jobs in your hospital have already sexually abused a child.

One hospital attorney said, that for the cost of 1 of their 9 lawsuits, they could run The Diana Screen® on every job applicant for the next 50 years.

Children in long-term hospital care are away from their parents and vulnerable. They may be survivors of a brain injury or a drowning incident. Or they may be in a hospital for the intellectually disabled.

Because they are ill or disabled, they are especially vulnerable. People who have already sexually abused a child are known to target facilities that provide their care.

Besides the damage to the child, and the terrible cost to the hospital, is the loss of the hospital's reputation.

As a Children's Hospital CEO said, after having two separate sexual abusers from his hospital appear on the front page within two months, "What if parents won't send their children here?"

What is difficult to understand is who is likely to do such a thing and why.

What we know is that abusers come equally from all walks of life. They are 6% of all adults.

Most abuse because they have a hidden sex drive directed toward children.

They are pediatricians, respiratory therapists, nurses, volunteers.

Most are married. Most are religious. They produce good references. There are few of them. They are invisible. They do a great deal of damage.

The Center for Disease Control advises child-care facilities to screen everybody.

Now, with new research and new methodology you have the opportunity to use a screen developed for just this purpose. To block people who want to sexually abuse children from getting jobs at a Children's Hospital.

Using The Diana Screen® can reduce the risk to children by an estimated 70%.

Some professionals become emotionally attached to a sick child.

Especially a child with emotional problems. It is important to hire people who are able to maintain good sexual boundaries.

The Diana Screen® also tests to screen out prospective hires with very poor judgment about adult/child sexual boundaries.

HOW THE CHILD ABUSER PASSES YOUR SCREENING

1. He assumes, since you know him, that you won't do a thorough reference check.
2. You may need to hire someone quickly, so you do not do a thorough reference check.
3. You ask for two letters of reference. He gives you references who know nothing about his past as an abuser.
4. On his resume, he leaves out the places he worked that would report his problematic behavior.
5. He strongly encourages you to do a criminal check on him. Like over 95% of people who sexually abuse, he knows he has never been convicted.
6. You don't use the new screening methods - such as THE DIANA SCREEN®.

ACCEPTANCE OF THE DIANA SCREEN®

200 prospective hires were screened for their sexual risk to children and their ability to protect them against sexual contact with adults.
This research sample included screens from faith-based groups, teen residence facilities, foster care, and youth-serving volunteer groups.
Among all test-takers--even the ones who failed--there was incredibly high acceptance of the screen.
Of the 200 people who took The Diana Screen®
98% said other people near children should take this screen.
98% said I would take this again in two years.
98% said I think other groups should use this screen to protect children.
95% said that taking The Diana Screen® was easy, using the mouse was easy, and answering the questions was easy.
When asked to list their feelings after taking The Diana Screen®, top choices were "interested," "relaxed," and "pleased." Of the 200 people, 2 said they were "embarrassed."
While 174 reported that it was important to them to prevent child sexual abuse, 60 said the subject made them "uncomfortable."
