A New Era In Child Safety

"Child sexual abuse affects all levels of Foster Care. A few severely sexually abused children molest younger children. A few Foster parents molest their Foster children.
Screening out adults who have a limited understanding of sexual boundaries could give a program a much needed advantage."
          Gene G. Abel, MD

Foster Care Becoming Safer For Children

Children in Foster Care often arrive there because they have been sexually abused. They need special protection against another sexual abuse.

The Diana Screen® can increase their safety by screening out adult applicants who have already sexually abused a child, but have no criminal record. And by screening out adults who will fail to protect the children from other adults and older children.

Whether you are a CEO, administrator, director or social worker, you do more to protect children than your job description demands. At Abel Screening we know that you are continually protecting our country's most vulnerable children - the ones who come to you because they have already suffered mistreatment.

What if you could administer an evidence-based, scientifically validated screen using only 5 minutes of staff time that would give you greater assurance that a man or woman could provide sexual safety for Foster Children?

The Diana Screen® is a simple (4th grade reading level), quick (20 minutes) screen with pass/fail results sent to you immediately.

Using only 5 minutes of staff time, you can gain a new level of confidence that the prospective Foster Parent presents little risk of being a sexual abuser. And, that he or she has the ability to protect children against sexual contact with other adults.

You do criminal background checks and still you have this problem.

That's because less than 5% of child molesters have been convicted. Screening out never-convicted molesters from the Foster Parent applicants is important.

Just as important is screening out prospective Foster Parents and group home workers who have little ability to protect children from sexual abuse by others.

People who target Foster Care

  • do great harm to the children
  • do great harm to the staff's reputation
  • do great harm to the reputation of other Foster Parents

The Diana Screen® can make it very hard for these few to get into your system.

Most people (90%) pass all three measures of The Diana Screen®.

They make up an excellent group from which to choose.

Some Human Resource administrators have stated that people who have passed The Diana Screen® present fewer disciplinary problems and the staff then has to deal with fewer "soft misconduct" complaints of questionable behavior with kids and accusations of inappropriate touching.

HOW THE CHILD ABUSER PASSES YOUR SCREENING

1. He assumes, since you know him, that you won't do a thorough reference check.
2. You may need to hire someone quickly, so you do not do a thorough reference check.
3. You ask for two letters of reference. He gives you references who know nothing about his past as an abuser.
4. On his resume, he leaves out the places he worked that would report his problematic behavior.
5. He strongly encourages you to do a criminal check on him. Like over 95% of people who sexually abuse, he knows he has never been convicted.
6. You don't use the new screening methods - such as THE DIANA SCREEN®.

ACCEPTANCE OF THE DIANA SCREEN®

200 prospective hires were screened for their sexual risk to children and their ability to protect them against sexual contact with adults.
This research sample included screens from faith-based groups, teen residence facilities, foster care, and youth-serving volunteer groups.
Among all test-takers--even the ones who failed--there was incredibly high acceptance of the screen.
Of the 200 people who took The Diana Screen®
98% said other people near children should take this screen.
98% said I would take this again in two years.
98% said I think other groups should use this screen to protect children.
95% said that taking The Diana Screen® was easy, using the mouse was easy, and answering the questions was easy.
When asked to list their feelings after taking The Diana Screen®, top choices were "interested," "relaxed," and "pleased." Of the 200 people, 2 said they were "embarrassed."
While 174 reported that it was important to them to prevent child sexual abuse, 60 said the subject made them "uncomfortable."

WHAT WE BELIEVE

The people at Abel Screening are dedicated to protecting children.

We believe every parent should know that their children have the greatest sexual abuse protection possible when they are cared for by others away from home.

THE DIANA SCREEN®, by screening out prospective volunteers and employees who present a sexual risk, improves the child's sexual safety by an estimated 70%.

For 20 years Abel Screening has been developing cutting-edge technology to keep children safe.

THE DIANA SCREEN® is our sixth test. It is a breakthrough in technology - 18 years in the making - that gives child care groups a way to add more sexual protection to children than has ever been possible.

Gene G. Abel, M.D., president of Abel Screening, Inc., is an internationally recognized pioneer in the sexual protection of children.

The federal government has awarded him six long-term National Institute of Mental Health grants to study the prevention of child molestation.

Dr. Abel has published 150 scientific articles in medical journals and criminal justice books and on the Attorney General's Department of Justice website.

Now, those findings are being put to a practical use.

As we work with religious and secular groups to protect the children in their care, it's important to us to form a partnership.

As we work with you to protect children, we will support you with the greatest respect for your organization. We will provide the highest quality in scientific technology and immediate customer service.

Together we can establish a new era in child safety.
